Ben Bruha
Ben Bruha has been involved in fitness and athletics since beginning his first season of organized hockey at the age of five (1996). Ben participated in all kinds of sports such as volley ball, baseball, track and field and badminton, but it was clear that his passion lay with hockey. Until Ben turned fifteen he played in his hometown of Consort Alberta as a defenseman. During his time playing Tier 1 with the Consort Comets Ben captured 3 provincial gold medals and 1 silver medal, along with numerous NEAHL league championships, as well as a trip to the Alberta Winter games. During Ben's first and second year of Bantam he was offered his first chance to play AAA hockey with a summer league team from L.A, The North Valley Tigers.
After proving he was capable of being an effective player at the AAA level Ben made the move to begin playing for the U16 Wainwright polar Kings at the AA level. After a successful season of U16 Ben was invited to the Fort Mac Murray Oil Barons Junior A main camp where he performed well but it was apparent that he required more time to develop. Next season Ben made the cut for the Wainwright Polar kings Major Midget AAA hockey team. During his first season of major midget Ben solidified his role as a key player both offensively and defensively. At the beginning of Ben's third and last year of midget hockey in Wainwright his teammates voted him Captain.
As an 18 year old Midget hockey became a thing of the past and Ben now set his sights on making a name for himself in Junior Hockey. In the fall of 2009 The sun rose and fell on The Lloydminster Bobcats Junior ‘A’ hockey main camp, Finding himself on the wrong side of the cut list Ben traveled east to the province of Quebec. Landing in Temiscaming Quebec the night of the Temiscaming Junior ‘A’ Royals home opener Ben watched the lights and smoke as the home team took to the ice, rejection and criticism turned into the fuel of ambition. In the next month of being in and out of the line up Ben successfully earned his spot as a Jr. A hockey player, as a walk on. After a hard fought season Ben fell ill, discovering a duodenal ulcer that resulted in an inability to train or skate until October of 2010. After fighting illness for months Ben was finally cleared to return to the ice. Finding himself in Sturgeon Falls Ontario, once again battling for a spot on a Junior A roster. Quickly proving his worth on the ice, Ben was placed on the top defensive pairing. By December Ben had been made captain of the Sturgeon falls Jr.A Lumberjacks. Now healthy and playing the best hockey of his career Ben received a call from Monroe Community College in Rochester New York. After skating with the college team Ben was offered a scholarship for the 2011-2012 season. Ben was also contacted by Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton Alberta to play for the Griffins.
Ben recognized that he was ready to take the next step in his career, beginning with superior training, conditioning, and stress management. He had recognized that his brother Josh’s training with Tanya had helped Josh win Midget AAA Canadian Nationals held in Quebec in April of 2010. “With expert training and support from Zen Yahweh Fitness I ready myself for the task of becoming a University level hockey player.” says Ben. He then began training with Tanya (Zen Yahweh Fitness) in June 2011.

Josh Bruha
Josh Bruha has been an Athlete since he was seven, whether it was track and field, baseball, soccer, or hockey, if it was a sport he would play it and to his surprise, be quite successful. As Bruha got older he started to notice he was especially talented when it came to Hockey. Bruha's first taste of competitive hockey came at the age of nine in 2002 when he made the North Country Stars; it was his first AAA hockey club. It was a summer team based out of Grand Prairie, AB. After competing in several tournaments with the North Country Stars, in which he had won game MVP three times in the summers of 2000- 2002and played teams spanning from Edmonton to Washington. The summer was over and his passion for hockey was set on fire. From 2003 to 2007 Josh made eleven more AAA teams. In the seasons of 04 and 05 Bruha won back to back team MVPs as well as Corry Shultz awards for showing passion and dedication to the game.
His next accomplishment was playing for the BC Best ever under16 team which led to him being drafted in the seventh round of the bantam draft. Bruha went 138 overall to the moose jaw warriors in the western hockey league (WHL). In the summer of 2008 he made the zone 8 team, for the BC Best Ever under age 17 team. That placed him in a tournament with the top 128 of all 17 year old players in BC. During this tournament Bruha was one of two assistant captains on the undefeated Maple Leafs. His performance during this tournament landed him in Nanaimo with the top 40 players in BC for his age. After that Josh moved to South Saskatchewan to play hockey for the Caronport Cougars, where he racked up 45 points in thirty games with 23 assists and 22 goals. Bruha is now training for his biggest challenge yet, a spot on the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta junior hockey league.

Kathryn Fairweather
My name is Kathryn Fairweather and I mostly consider myself a recreational athlete, however I do enjoy training for and competing in competitions and have quite a few events under my belt as I have been doing competitions for over 10 years. I grew up in Rossland, BC so was an avid skier from a young age and of course was involved in the Nancy Green Ski Club and ski raced both with the Red Mountain Racers and also with the high school downhill ski team. I first started with running races in University and did the Vancouver Sun Run in 1998. From there, I began to be involved with Triathlon, competing in the UBC Tri in 1999-2003. I also completed many other triathlons during this time period including Nelson CySwOg’n’Fun, Penticton Peach Classic, Squamish Triathlon, and I gradually upgraded bicycles as my interest grew.
In 2002 I joined the X-country ski team at UBC and competed in BC cup X-country ski races around BC as well. I ran my first ½ marathon in summer 2003, the Scotiabank ½, and then again in the fall of 2003 another ½ marathon in Victoria. I continued to run the Sun Run every year and was really active in Training Clinics until 2004, when I moved from Vancouver to Prince George. In Prince George I joined the Ultimate Frisbee team and competed with them in the summers and also continued with Triathlon and with X-country skiing in winter. I have competed in the Prince George Iceman, a kind of winter triathlon, with skate-skiing, running, speed skating, and swimming in a pool, since 2005, and I have placed as high as 3rd overall female in this event. In Triathlon, I started doing some of the northern races and have once finished 2nd overall female in the Prince George triathlon. In 2005 I completed my first 1/2 Ironman at the Victoria New Balance race, and enjoyed this longer event very much. In 2006 I moved to Fort St. John and to stay busy I signed up and trained for the Penticton Ironman and completed this race in 2007 with a time of slightly over 13 hours. What a fun day that was! I also joined the Blizzard Bike Club in Fort St. John and this has been really great at improving biking skills. I won the trophy with the Bike Club for fastest overall female duathlon in 2007 and 2008, and also fastest female age 20-30 in 2007.
As well, I have continued to enjoy triathlon here in the far north and placed in Fort St John, Dawson Creek, and Fort Nelson in my age category. I also competed in the Stoney Plain ½ Ironman last year and finished in 5hours 35mins which is not too shabby. Last year I did the Emperor’s Challenge with a friend and really enjoyed the views and a casual stroll during the race, but this year I am competing in the Sinister 7 relay running race in Blairmore, AB as well as the Emperor’s Challenge 2009 and hope to have a good time at both these events. The best part about all these activities is the friends you make and the good times you have, plus all the chocolate you get to eat at the end!

Rhonda Zeunert
My name is Rhonda Zeunert. Growing up in the Okanagan valley I did not do a lot of physical activity, but enjoyed bike riding and weight training. It was not until about 5 – 6 years ago I was experiencing high blood pressure. It was at this time I knew I would have to become more active in order to lower my blood pressure and get healthy again. I joined an outdoor bootcamp group and after several months had lowered my blood pressure to “normal”. A friend inspired me to sign up for the Emperor’s Challenge, a ½ marathon over Emperor Mountain in the Tumbler Ridge area.
I have continued working with the same bootcamp group over the last 4-5 years and every August I have completed the Emperor’s Challenge. I have continued with the goal that after 5 consecutive years, I will receive a permanent number for the Emperor’s Challenge 2009. This year, being my 5th year and marking my 40th birthday, I hope to finish the race with the best time and to get a silver or gold medal. This is why I have been working with Tanya of Zen Yahweh Fitness and my bootcamp group, All about You Bootcamp. The satisfaction I get from completing such an undertaking as this is the reward at the end – I DID IT!! I look forward to my Challenge again this year.
